Program Description: This associate-degree program allows you to enter the fastest-growing branch of agriculture. Horticulture is both an art and a science, a broad field that encompasses the development, growth, distribution, care and maintenance, and use of many types of plants from fruits and vegetables to shrubs, trees, and grass. Work as a landscape manager, have a business as a landscape contractor, manage landscape-design and installation projects; work as an arborist or in the interiorscape maintenance or design-and-installation industries. Become a turfgrass manager, garden center operator, greenhouse production specialist, nursery manager, or golf course assistant. Work in plant, seed, chemical, or equipment sales. Work at a public garden or as a city horticulturalist. The field continues to expand for Environmental Horticulture graduates. The College has its own arboretum, and students gain unique hands-on experiences by planting large-scale trees using heavy equipment. Students also have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology by planting cloned trees. The College maintains a close working relationship with industry professionals, such as golf-course managers, University of Georgia county extension agents and researchers, growers, equipment manufacturers, local landscape companies, and garden centers.
