CTC Legal Office Specialist Student Earns GOAL Title

April 1, 2008 - Stacie Kimbell, a Legal Office Specialist student, is the winner of the 2008 GOAL (Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership) competition for Columbus Technical College. The results were announced at a ceremony at the Green Island Country Club on April 1, 2008, during a lunchtime meeting of the North Columbus Rotary Club.

Stacie Kimbell is an accomplished flutist.  She has an undergraduate degree in music. During her remarks at the luncheon, Kimbell said her decision to pursue a technical education was based on common sense.

“I wasn't going to spend another dime on an education that didn't give me a marketable skill! Columbus Technical College was the obvious choice for me.”

The North Columbus Rotary Club is a partner in Columbus Technical College’s annual GOAL effort. The Club presented Stacie with a check for $300 and each runner-up with a check for $50. Stacie also received what is perhaps the most coveted award for the GOAL student: a reserved parking spot for one year at Columbus Technical College!

Stacie and the other winners from each of Georgia’s 33 technical colleges will compete for the state title. All GOAL representatives will meet in Atlanta for “GOAL Week” May 19 – 23. The state wide winner will be announced at a banquet on May 22. The state winner will be an advocate for technical education for one year; that includes giving an address to the Georgia legislature. He or she will also win a new car.

Columbus Technical College President Bob Jones congratulates Stacie Kimbell

Columbus Technical College nominated 25 students for their GOAL representative. Those students are chosen by their instructors based on academic achievement and personal leadership. Stacie was selected from among four finalists.  The runners-up are: Tashema Chester/Cosmetology, Cody Starnes/Associate Degree Nursing and Prisca Walters-Geddes/Management and Supervisory Development.

Congratulations, Stacie Kimbell and good luck in Atlanta!
