Nail Technician Certificate

Program Description

The Nail Technician program is a sequence of courses that prepares students for careers in the field of Nail Technician. Learning opportunities develop academic and professional knowledge, and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. The program emphasizes specialized training in safety, sanitation, state laws, rules and regulations, nail diseases and disorders, skin and nail care, and work ethics. The curriculum meets state licensing requirements of the State Board of Cosmetology. Program graduates receive a Nail Technician certificate and are employable as Nail Technicians.

Entrance Requirements

  • Meet minimum test scores
  • Complete program conference sheet with advisor prior to admission
  • Age 16 years of age or older

Advisor

An advisor should be consulted prior to enrolling in any course. A program advisor will be assigned by Department.

Job Market

Three out of every four salons are looking for nail technicians. Podiatrists are always looking for nail technicians to assist them in the medical setting.

Personal Traits Required

Personal traits for a nail technician are the same as for cosmetologist. The individual must be motivated, a people person, creative, able to work independently, and as with any profession, should be willing to begin in an entry level position. Appearance, punctuality, and professional attitude are only a few of the personal traits required to be successful in this profession.
