Management and Supervisory Development DegreeDegree: Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) Program Description To be efficient and productive, any group of people working together needs someone who can see the "big picture," understand the goals of the organization, and possess the ability to implement the company plan for reaching the objective. A manager, no matter what the industry, is a person who can lead people to be productive. Managers understand the economics of the business, the nature of the product or service the company provides. Managers understand the efficient use of assets, whether they be money, material, or human resources; furthermore, managers understand the law as it pertains to the business in which they are employed. Managers know how to maximize the efforts of employers, and they understand the techniques that are most successful in managing people. Managers are teachers, trainers, counselors, decision-makers, and enforcers of company policy. No business can succeed without professional management, and no person with management skills will find these skills unappreciated in business and industry, no matter how large or small the specific business or industry. If you can organize, lead, and produce, companies will value your skills. Faculty who have diverse experience in management and supervision and faculty who can teach you what it takes to be hired and what employers expect of people who will advance in an organization offer this associate degree. As a graduate, you will be able to demonstrate to employers the ability to manage and maximize company resources. If you like responsibility and enjoy implementing a plan and if you like leading a team to achieve a common goal, management and supervision will give you the opportunity to thrive professionally. As an associate-degree student, you will have the skills to work as a first-line and mid-level manager. You will have the opportunity to focus in human resource management, small business management, or general business. Career opportunities for you, the graduate, include plant supervisor, small business owner, human resource generalist, or office manager. Career Information and Occupational Outlook
